Once Upon a Winter Day

Written and Illustrated by Liza Woodruff

Milo wants a story, but his mom is too busy with her own work to read him one. “Why don’t you go outside and play,” she suggests.

Stepping out into the yard, Milo notices tiny footprints of a mouse in the snow and embarks upon an adventure.

Following the footprints, Milo discovers evidence of other creatures that live in the forest. Each time, Milo tries to imagine what each animal was doing in the snow.

When it is finally time to go home, Milo now has a story to tell his mother.

What stories can you find on your winter walk?

See if you can find the mouse on each page!

Santa’s Underwear

Written by Marty Rhodes Figley and illustrated by Marty Kelley

Christmas Eve is here and Santa is busy preparing for his big night. After taking a bubble bath and eating a healthy dinner, it is now time for Santa to put on his warm and cozy long, red, woolly undies. Big Problem — his undies are no where to be found! What is he going to do! After searching for them everywhere, Santa tries on his Valentine’s Day boxers, his St. Patrick’s Day long johns, and various other types of underwear but nothing is just right. Santa wants his red long johns! As it gets closer to midnight, Santa gives up and decides that he is just going to have to wear his St. Patrick’s Day long johns. But wait, what is the surprise that awaits Santa in his closet?

Together We Grow

Written by Susan Vaught and illustrated by Kelly Murphy.

When a thunderstorm comes, all the animals on the farm seek shelter in the warm, dry barn. Outside, the rain floods the home of a family of foxes and they are in search of a dry place to stay. When the mother fox comes to the barn, however, all the other animals tell her, “Go away! We’re full today!”. A little yellow duck is the one who invites the mother and her kits into the barn and shows the animals that, “Large or small, short and tall ….there is room…for us all”.
